We embraced the "bubbles" theme for Global Game Jam, incorporating two of the four diversifiers:

     For Boba Beach, our programming team designed game mechanics aligned with the 80s controls diversifier. With a classic, minimalist control scheme—four keys for movement and one for selection—we crafted an engaging boba-making experience.

     Players take on the role of a barista, moving around the shop to gather ingredients for dynamically generated drink orders. Each order consists of a drink base, boba, and extras, with customers patiently (or not so patiently!) waiting against a ticking timer. At the heart of the game are two core systems: Boba Orders and Player Movement, seamlessly working together to deliver a fast-paced, retro-inspired challenge.

     Visually, our artists brought Boba Beach to life with a classic 2D line art style reminiscent of after-school cartoons. While the game remains fully 2D, the team utilized a partially isometric forced perspective—achieved through 3D grayboxing—to streamline the artistic process and add depth to the environment. This fusion of nostalgic aesthetics and clever design choices enhances the game's playful, retro feel.
